august 31: toledo

We met at school bright and early at 9 am for a short bus ride to the city of Toledo.
Toledo is a city whose economy is run almost entirely by tourism so this visit was very different than being in Madrid which is more locally centered. Everyone in Toledo spoke English and seemed very used to our massive tour buses and the swarm of 120 USD students.

We first visited the cathedral: Catedral Primada Santa Maria de Toledo. This cathedral is thought of to be the most prominent in Spain, and is more respected than the cathedral in Madrid, even though Madrid is the capital city. Inside there was a display of gold artifacts and beautiful stained glass that I enjoyed most. We also saw a Jewish temple and a mosque but they were not very prominent because Spain is such a predominantly Catholic country.

Stopping for some stracciatella gelato after the tour

Toledo is built on a massive hill, partially because when it was built this made it a very safe location because they could see any approaching attacks from any direction. Now, this location allows for a beautiful view from every side of the city!

We returned back to Madrid after a few hours and started packing for the travel seminar that began early the next morning.
